WHAT IS TMCCF, INC

The Tuskegee Macon County Community Foundation, Inc. (TMCCF), founded in 2002 in Tuskegee/Macon County Alabama, is an IRS designated 501(c)(3) public charity organization.  It plays a vital role in addressing civic and public challenges and is positioned uniquely to serve in the capacity of community convener, grants manager, and fiscal agent.  The primary focus of the Foundation is to enhance the quality of life in rural and other communities facing economic and social challenges.

Community Foundations are funded by donations from individuals, families, businesses and foundations and grants.  Donors can claim up to a 60% tax write off depending upon individual or company circumstances.

TMCCF offers a variety of programs designed to support the needs of the communities we serve, whether local or more broadly defined. Common areas of support include health and human services, education and vocational training, economic and community development, the arts, recreation, and telecommunications.

Goals & Objectives

Goals
Build the capacity for sustainability by:

  • Building community capacity and employ local assets;
  • Raising capital through donations, grants and investments;
  • Serving as fiduciary agent for non-profit organizations that do not have a 501 (c) (3) IRS status;
  • Utilizing technology to help sustain and develop communities;
  • Engaging medical expertise and technology to improve healthcare and health information;
  • Engaging policy makers to develop and improve rural and other impoverished communities;
  • Promoting excellence in education and training from birth to elder; and,
  • Engaging citizens to help assess and develop strategic direction for their neighborhoods and regions.

Objectives
Engage strategic partnerships and collaboration to:

  • Develop strategic plans that provide a direction for change, revitalization, and funding;
  • Develop a plan for cleanup and beautification;
  • Develop a comprehensive plan to address issues such as health disparities, entrepreneurship, business and job development, and education of youth;
  • Develop strategic plan for addressing security, safety, and welfare;
  • Develop events and other projects to preserve and amplify local histories;
  • Develop educational opportunities for all ages and  learning styles; and,
  • Provide  forums for citizens to express ideas and concepts.

WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A COMMUNITY FOUNDATION?

  • It is an institution that is a public charity with a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt status.
  • It helps direct people who wish to donate their money and other gifts where it is most needed.

TMCCF renders direct services to four major groups:

1.   Individual donors by providing:

  • Information that will help to maximize the use of their donation;
  • Significant tax advantages and money management services;
  • Information that will help make decisions about their bequest to satisfy their personal interests and concerns;
  • Technical assistance to donor attorneys, accountants and other financial advisors;
  • Administrative and management services for contributions that have been bequeathed that not only serves the community, but families as well; and,
  • Recognition for individuals, their families or for someone of their choice for a limited time or in perpetuity.

2.   The community by providing:

  • A way for the community to assess its needs and garner its resources to resolve its concerns;
  • A charitable trust that will enable the community to meet its challenges when other resources have changed priorities or have been discontinued;
  • Leadership which addresses community needs and manages resources; and,
  • Inter-generational continuity that enables the community to build its future on the shoulders of its past.

3.   Non-Profit organizations by providing:

  • Funds for operating programs and projects as well as emergencies;
  • Technical assistance in the areas of fund raising and administration; and,
  • Management services for holding, investing and disbursements of endowments.

4.   Corporations and local businesses by providing:

  • Significant tax advantages for businesses and/or corporations;
  • Opportunities to leverage resources to help build the community;
  • Direct linkages to the community and awareness of current and emerging needs;
  • A way to target and align community relations strategies with business goals and objectives; and,
  • A way to recognize corporate and business citizenship.

5.  TMCCF enables donors, recipients, programs, and community to win.

  • The donor wins because they are actively able to participate in community problem solving, while not being burdened with costly organizational and administrative tasks.
